September 1 to September 29
October 6 to November 3
November 3 to December 1
December 1 to December 29
The Risk Management for Outdoor Programs course, which takes 40 hours spread over 4 weeks, provides comprehensive training in best practices for safety management with experiential, adventure, expedition-based and other outdoor learning and recreation organizations.
The course covers theories of risk management and incident prevention, outdoor safety standards, legal considerations, emergency response, risk transfer, risk management plan development, and much more.
The training is designed to be globally applicable. Individuals from dozens of countries have successfully completed the course.
Participants not only learn how to manage risks in the outdoor and experiential education context, but they also learn how to apply best practices to their own specific situation. Enrollees complete detailed self-assessments of their own organization relative to outdoor safety standards. They draft an outline of a systems-informed Risk Management Plan for their organization. And they complete a Strategic Improvement Plan exercise in which they develop an action plan and prioritize improvement projects for their own organization’s risk management systems.
Past participants have found the course to be well-designed, comprehensive and useful. Recent graduates have this to say:
