Viristar and International Camping Fellowship Partner to Bring Safety Training to Camps Worldwide

Viristar is pleased to partner with the International Camping Fellowship (ICF) to bring Risk Management for Outdoor Programs training courses to ICF members at a discount.

The Risk Management for Outdoor Programs course offers camp directors and other camp program managers a comprehensive training on best safety practices for camp programs anywhere in the world.

The 40-hour course, which is offered online, provides participants with a theoretical model of incident causation and prevention, designed specifically for camps and similar experiential and outdoor programs. The model employs the latest thinking in complex socio-technical systems theory and human factors research to provide a globally leading framework by which to minimize risk of trip, travel, and related camp activities.

The course, which has received the Educational Endorsement seal from the American Camp Association, also provides detailed safety standards for a variety of camp-related risk management topics, including:

  • Staff recruiting, hiring, training and supervising

  • Managing subcontractors (providers)

  • Mitigating equipment-based and activity-based hazards

  • Developing risk management plans (safety management systems) for outdoor adventurous activities

  • Wilderness risk management procedures

  • Accreditation, regulations, and legal conformance

  • Media relations around newsworthy safety incidents

  • Working with camp-based standards bodies such as Australian Camps Association and American Camp Association

Fahrettin Gozet, International Camping Fellowship Board President, stated, “We’re very pleased to be able to offer the Risk Management for Outdoor Programs trainings to ICF members at a discount. Camp leaders around the world place a high value on safety, and these courses will help them lead high-quality camping experiences with excellence in risk management.”
