Risk Management for Outdoor Programs Course
Essential Eligibility Criteria
To participate in the Risk Management for Outdoor Programs course, individuals must meet the following eligibility requirements:
- Have high-speed internet access.
- Possess a device suitable for online study and video-conference calls.
- Demonstrate the capacity to work constructively with others.
- Have the ability to read, write, and speak in the language of instruction (English, unless otherwise specified).
- Be available for at least 10 hours per week to engage in learning activities.
Attendance and Participation
It is generally permissible to miss a Live Session (video-conference call). Missing one Live Session typically will not significantly impact the participant’s overall learning experience or ability to obtain a course completion certificate.
Participants who miss a Live Session are responsible for catching up on any missed material and should view the recorded session.
Successful completion of the course requires demonstrating adequate knowledge and skills in course topics.
Course Completion
A course completion certificate is provided at the end for those who complete all course elements.
The certification indicates successful engagement with important safety information, so full participation in the course is required to receive the certificate.
Participants will have access to the learning platform for 40 days after the last session to complete all assignments.
Course Withdrawal and Rescheduling
If a participant needs to drop out of the course, they normally may re-schedule for another course cohort starting any time within the 12 months following the start of the course from which the participant is withdrawing.
Refund Policy
Generally, once a participant has registered, refunds are not available, unless the course is cancelled by the organizer.
By enrolling in this course, the purchaser agrees to these terms and conditions.
Adventure Safety Accreditation Application
Essential Eligibility Criteria
Organizations are eligible to apply for Adventure Safety Accreditation if they meet the following criteria:
- The organization provides adventure programming
- The organization has been in operation for at least three years
- The organization is a discrete entity, i.e. an entire organization, or an entity separate and distinct from any larger organization of which it may be a part
Eligibility to apply for accreditation does not imply that the organization will meet accreditation requirements.
Accreditation Fees
To complete your application, a non-refundable USD 295 application fee is required. Additional fees, including the annual accreditation fee, site visit fee, and any applicable late or administrative charges, will also apply.
All fees are non-refundable, regardless of the accreditation decision.
See the detailed fee schedule here.
Limitations
The site visit can show that the organization being accredited appears to meet the standards during the time of the site visit; it cannot guarantee this is the case at all times in the future.
Accreditation is not a guarantee of safety, and does not mean that no incidents or loss will occur at an accredited entity. No accreditation scheme can eliminate the inherent risks of adventure, travel and outdoor experiences.
Viristar’s safety accreditation standards are not intended to impose a legal duty of care on an organization or a person which is not otherwise in existence in the setting in which the activities are organized and held.
Viristar’s Adventure Safety Accreditation is not intended and may not be used to circumvent any registration, licensure or permitting processes required to operate an outdoor, experiential, travel or adventure-based business.
By applying for Adventure Safety Accreditation, the purchaser agrees to these terms and conditions.
Adventure Safety Accreditation Manual
The Adventure Safety Accreditation Standards are fully documented in the Adventure Safety Accreditation Standards Manual. The Manual is provided electronically as a PDF and is available for purchase online or as part of the initial accreditation application fee.
Purchasing or receiving the Manual grants a non-transferable, non-exclusive license to use it for internal reference and guidance only.
The Manual may not be reproduced, distributed, or shared outside the licensed organization without written permission from the publisher.
