We are proud to introduce Adventure Safety Accreditation Council member Lisette Gachanja.
Lisette is an experiential trainer and adventure therapist with Urbanite Camps in Kenya.
Lisette co-founded Urbanite Camps, which provides outdoor education programs for schools, corporate training and development, youth camps and adventure therapy.
She has also worked with corporate training, youth and adventure programs across Australia, the USA, Ghana and East Africa. Her previous roles include international director with Global Leadership Adventures and program coordinator at Learn With Dragonfly in Hong Kong.
Lisette holds a double major Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Community Development, a Certificate III in Outdoor Recreation and Outdoor Education from Anglican Youthworks in Australia and a Master of Education in Advanced Teaching, Curriculum and Instruction.
Her involvement in outdoor education began while in college, when she realized she could combine her love of nature and travel with meaningful work. Over time, she developed a strong interest in facilitation and training, particularly in youth programs. “It continues to accomplish three major things for me,” she said. “I have fun, I feel fulfilled doing this work, and I contribute to positive growth in those I interact with.”
At Urbanite Camps, Lisette values the balance between autonomy and collaboration. Her team designs and runs adventure programs, including holiday camps focused on learning through experience and enjoyment. She also develops school and corporate training programs, which she describes as providing ongoing opportunities for learning and growth.
As a member of the Adventure Safety Accreditation Council, Lisette hopes to encourage outdoor and adventure organizations to seek accreditation and strengthen their commitment to maintaining good practice standards in adventure safety.
