UN Tourism is the United Nations agency dedicated to promoting responsible, sustainable and universally accessible tourism. Its global network of more than 500 Affiliate Members contributes expertise and experience to support tourism development aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.

Affiliate membership with UN Tourism supports our work with government agencies, nonprofit organizations, and private-sector partners to strengthen systems and support the delivery of well-designed outdoor, adventure, experiential and travel experiences.

A core service of Viristar is the Risk Management for Outdoor Programs course, a 40-hour online training designed for leaders and managers of outdoor and adventure programs.

The curriculum provides participants with a theoretical model of incident causation and prevention, designed specifically for adventure and outdoor programs. The model employs the latest thinking in complex socio-technical systems theory and human factors research to provide a globally leading framework by which to minimize risk of outdoor related activities.

In addition to our risk management training, we provide a wide range of services including safety audits, incident reviews, safety systems development and Adventure Safety Accreditation. 

Viristar’s team brings decades of international experience across outdoor education, adventure tourism and experiential learning. Team members have served as executive leaders, program managers, instructors and consultants across diverse operational contexts.
